Treating Ringworm Herbally

The term Ring Worm in reality has nothing to do with worms; it is mere a fungal infection of the skin. The infection came to be known as ring worm because of the red round marks on the surface of the skin with slight protrusions looked like a worm is inside and the name stuck and it lingers till now. There are many treatments for ringworm in every branch of medical science. However, it is a wrong notion to think that every round spot on the skin is due to ringworms.

The scraps of skin under a microscope help a doctor to determine the cause of it and whether it is Ringworm. Ringworm in humans is not uncommon though.

In medical science this ailment is known as tinea; which means growing worm in Latin. Since the word tinea still lingers on doctors have started adding a specific word to differentiate the varied types of ringworms. Tinea capitis is for ringworms on the scalp, tines pedis is fungal infection of the feet and so on and so forth. There are several Ringworm home remedies and some of them are as follows.
  • Juglans nigra or Black Walnut is a very potent anti-fungal and its efficacy has only come to be known in recent times. There are capsules of black nut powder in the market; all you need to do is to take the powder out and apply it on the affected part thrice daily after making a paste of it. After this you would need to bandage it for atleast three hours on a daily basis; thrice daily.
  • Melaleuca alternifolia or tree tea oil has strong antiseptic properties and it should be applied on the affected area once for a week and prolong the treatment if necessary. Do not at any cost take it internally as it is poisonous. If irritation occurs in using; then stop immediately.
  • Allium sativum or Garlic has very strong anti fungi and anti bacterial propensities; even though it smells abominably. Garlic paste should be applied on the affected area and left for an hour. Though, precautions need to be taken on children as it is very strong and may cause blisters.
