Treatment for Mumps

Since, there is no known treatment which can kill the mumps virus; only symptomatic treatment is given in it and the symptoms of mumps is a conspicuous painful bulge or inflammation near the lower part of the ear lobe. 

As antibiotics and other available methods of treatments are not able to combat the virus; the body fights the virus in an instinctive way. The treatment which is given for mumps is known as supportive treatment and they are to give relief from pain, fever and inflammation.

These treatments vary from-

• Acetaminophen / ibuprofen for temperature and aches and it can be injected as mumps vaccine.
• Hot fermentation with the aid of damp towels
• Liquids
• Bedrest till the fever abates
• Rest until the fever improves
• Dieting

With these treatments; within a fortnight the fever should leave the body and the symptoms of mumps should go, however in rare cases other complications occur after the symptoms of mumps have long since gone. To play it safe it is better to take advice from a professional doctor from the onstart; since it is a contagious disease. If you seek medical advice from the onset then you would be able to avoid the complications which can appear later on. Eating habits also need to change, as it would not be possible to chew food; however this is a relative issue.

Mostly affected people recover fully from mumps without any symptoms of other complications like deafness; however there is no treatment for mumps and the aftermath.
