This is a Mediterranean herb and is the wild form of Oregano, which incidentally is more flavored. Marjoram is a delicate herb and it needs to be sown seasonally in spring; though the roots survive the leaves wither off in winters. The poultice made from marjoram is very beneficial in treating parched itching skin. To prepare this decoct, mix 150 gms of marjoram in 1/2 ltr of water and use the boiled filtrate. Marjoram can be grown in pots in the month of March and could be transferred to a pot in May. However, women the world over are fond of this herb because of its taste enhancing propensities. In, other words recipe books would definitely contain marjoram in their contents. 

Incidentally, pizzas are smeared with the powder of this herb to enhance its taste; in other words marjoram is widely used for garnishing.
